Artist fees and what to charge

Work out the fees you are going to charge in advance of a project.

You can charge what you want but consider the following:

  • Planning time
  • Workshop time
  • Set up and clear up time
  • Materials and hire of equipment
  • Travel costs

Work out an hourly rate (see below for industry recommendations)

  • Your experience
  • What others are charging locally
  • Arts Council England no longer have minimum recommended rates, but our expectation for an experienced artist running a workshop is £200 per day minimum plus materials and expenses. If you are working on a project for longer than a few days some of your overheads will reduce and the daily rate may well go down. More information on industry standards are available from these organizations though you may need to become a member to get advice:
