Art Works for Business

In July we said goodbye to Laura Boswell our Coordinator for the past year. Art Works for Business has some great projects behind it and Laura was sad to say goodbye but has a wonderful opportunity to go to Japan for two months and study wood block printing. Also in July we appointed Mike Watson as the new AWB Coordinator. Mike is a very active member of the creative scene in Wycombe and Bucks, comes from a business background, is a drummer and has great web skills. It is great to have him on board. He is also busy supporting the development of a new creative hub in the old St John's Church site in High Wycombe.

Driving Inspiration awarded Inspire Mark

Driving Inspiration was awarded an Inspire Mark by London 2012 earlier this year, one of only two marks awarded to projects in Buckinghamshire. This is in recognition of the excellent work the project has been undertaking to enable disabled and non disabled young people to learn from and be inspired by Paralympians and disabled artists.

Two Creative Bucks applications to the Arts Council South East

On 17th July 2009 we sent of an application for expanding the work of our project Driving Inspiration. We have asked for £53,000 from the ACSE which will enable us to work with more schools in the region and for our five focus schools in Bucks to make some international links with Paralympians and disabled artists. Buckingham Primary School, Beaconsfield School, Mandeville School, Cressex Community College and Heritage House School, have designed some wonderful posters and great slogans celebrating 2012. Some of the funding for which we have applied will enable this great work to be distributed to 2012 Games training camps and transport hubs. We have a designer working on the posters at the moment and will put an online gallery on the website by the end of October 2009.

At the moment we are working on another application to the Arts Council and numerous economic agencies in partnership with colleges of FE and HE. This application is about providing further opportunities for training and mentoring following on from the evaluations and feedback from our Community Arts Training and creative business advice surgeries earlier this year.

Are you interested in studio space in Great Missenden?

The Destination HP16 Group is undertaking a preliminary investigation into whether there is a need by artists, musicians, actors, singers etc. for renting a studio space in Great Missenden.

There is an old workshop unit behind the High Street shops, in Great Missenden, which is owned by Tesco. They would be willing to rent it for this purpose.

If there was enough demand for the space it is likely that funding could be found to make the place viable.

It is in a very convenient location with its own parking facilities, but would need some work done to it (possibly by volunteers) before it is usable.

At this preliminary stage it would be good to hear if you or anyone else was interested in helping to get the project off the ground.

If you know someone who may be interested in the project, could you please pass this e-mail on to them.

Kindest regards

Lyndsey Keeling
